Where to Meet Your Driver at Madinah Airport: A Practical Arrival Guide

Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED) is a smaller, more straightforward airport than Jeddah or Riyadh — which is good news if you've just landed after a long flight and want a simple answer to one question: where does your driver actually wait?

Where your driver waits

MED has two terminal buildings — an international terminal and a domestic terminal — and both feed into a single arrivals area. For a pre-booked private transfer, your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a printed name board, past the baggage claim and customs exit. You won't need to search a car park or a separate pickup zone; the meeting point is the same hall you walk out into after collecting your bags.

International vs. domestic arrivals

If you're flying in on an international route (common for pilgrims arriving directly from abroad), you'll clear immigration and customs before reaching the arrivals hall. Domestic arrivals — for example connecting through Jeddah or Riyadh first — skip that step and reach the pickup area faster. Either way, sharing your flight number when you book means your transfer is timed to your actual landing time, not the scheduled one, so a delayed immigration queue doesn't leave your driver guessing.

How far is Madinah from the airport?

Central Madinah — the Markazia area around Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, where most pilgrim hotels are concentrated — is about 20 km from the airport, roughly a 20-25 minute drive. It's a short, direct run compared to Jeddah's or Riyadh's airport-to-city distances, which is one reason many pilgrims choose to fly into Madinah first before continuing to Makkah.

Luggage and family groups

Most arrivals into Madinah are pilgrims travelling with more luggage than a typical short trip — Umrah bags, gifts, sometimes early Zamzam water on the return leg. A private transfer means your vehicle is sized to your group and bags before you land, rather than negotiating space at the curb.

Continuing to Makkah or AlUla

If your trip continues south to Makkah, that's a separate 450 km, roughly 4.5-hour drive, and the miqat stop at Dhul Hulaifah (Abyar Ali) — just outside Madinah — needs to be planned before you leave your hotel, not decided on the road. If your onward stop is AlUla instead, that's a different direction entirely; mention your full itinerary when booking so the right route is planned from the start.
