Saudi Arabia's distances are vast. Riyadh sits nearly a thousand kilometres from Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah are separated by the Hijra Highway, and communities like AlUla and Abha are hours from the nearest major airport. For travellers who need to move between cities with luggage, family members, colleagues, or tight schedules, a private intercity transfer is often the most practical — and the most comfortable — choice available.
Saudi Private Transfers provides door-to-door, city-to-city private car hire across the Kingdom. You name your origin address and your destination, you choose your departure time, and a professional driver arrives at your door in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle. There are no shared passengers, no ticketing queues, no fixed departure boards, and no last-mile problem at the other end. Your vehicle takes you from your starting point to exactly where you need to be.
Our intercity fleet covers the full spectrum of Saudi road travel. Solo travellers and couples travelling light can book a comfortable executive sedan. Families with pushchairs, large cases, or elderly relatives are better served by an SUV with generous boot space. Groups of four to seven can book a minivan, while larger parties — corporate delegations, tour groups, extended families — can reserve multi-vehicle convoys or a people-carrier. Every booking is vehicle-exclusive: the car is yours for the duration of the journey.
Private intercity transfers make particular sense in four situations. First, when a group is splitting the cost: a family of four travelling Riyadh to Jeddah by private car often pays less per head than four separate airline tickets, once you factor in check-in, baggage fees, and airport taxis at both ends. Second, when schedules are inflexible: private transfers depart when you are ready, not when a bus or train timetable dictates. Third, when the destination itself is poorly served by public transport — AlUla, Abha, Yanbu, and Tabuk all fall into this category. Fourth, when comfort matters: long desert highways can be taxing, and a private vehicle lets you stop for prayer, coffee, or a meal without coordinating with strangers.
Every driver on our platform is licensed by the Saudi Transport Authority, carries commercial passenger insurance, and has completed route familiarisation on the main intercity corridors. Vehicles undergo pre-journey safety checks and are equipped with GPS tracking throughout. You receive a driver name, photo, and contact number before departure — and our 24-hour operations desk remains available for the entire trip.
Saudi Private Transfers operates intercity routes throughout the Kingdom, connecting the major population centres of Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, and the Eastern Province with smaller but important destinations including Taif, Yanbu, AlUla, Abha, Buraidah, and Tabuk. If you need to travel between two Saudi cities and want a private vehicle, we cover the route.
Our most frequently requested corridors run between the Western and Central regions. The Riyadh-Jeddah route along Highway 40 is our single busiest intercity lane, followed closely by the Makkah-Madinah corridor and the Riyadh-Dammam route along the Eastern Highway. In the Western Region, Jeddah-Taif transfers via the Al Hada mountain road are popular with weekend travellers escaping the summer heat of the Tihama coast.
The northwestern heritage corridor — connecting Madinah with AlUla along Highway 375 — has seen rapid growth since AlUla opened to international tourism. This 330-kilometre route through ancient lava fields and volcanic highlands is one of the most scenic drives in the Kingdom and is poorly served by public transport, making private transfer the default choice for most visitors. We also operate the longer Riyadh-to-AlUla route for travellers who are combining a business trip in the capital with a leisure stay in the Hejaz highlands.
In the south, the Abha region in Asir Province draws domestic tourism year-round thanks to its cooler climate and dramatic escarpment scenery. Transfers from Abha to Khamis Mushait, Jizan, and Najran, as well as northward connections toward Taif and Jeddah, are available on request. Whatever the city pair, we will quote a fixed price and assign a driver experienced on that specific corridor.
Saudi Arabia's intercity highways are modern, well-lit, and well-maintained — but they are also long, and the desert climate demands a degree of preparation that shorter urban journeys do not. The following tips come directly from the experience of drivers and operations staff who cover these routes every week.
Departure timing matters more than most travellers expect. On the Riyadh-Jeddah route, leaving before 06:00 puts you past the industrial zones south of Riyadh before heavy truck traffic builds, and means you arrive in Jeddah during the early afternoon rather than the early evening rush. On Friday mornings, departing before 08:00 avoids the mid-morning exodus of families heading to Taif and the Hejaz region. For Makkah-Madinah during Umrah seasons, any early-morning departure is preferable to mid-afternoon, when the highway is at its most congested.
Break up drives longer than four hours. The standard advice for the Riyadh-Jeddah nine-hour route is two proper stops — typically at the large service complex near Afif (roughly the halfway point) and again near the Taif bypass. Each stop takes 20 to 30 minutes: enough for prayer, a hot meal, fuel, and a stretch. Your driver plans these stops in advance, but you can adjust timing and location to suit dietary preferences or prayer schedules.
Vehicle choice by group size is worth thinking through carefully. For two passengers on a sub-five-hour route, a comfortable sedan is fine. For four or more passengers on the Riyadh-Jeddah or Makkah-Madinah corridor, an SUV or minivan is strongly recommended — not only for luggage space but for the ability to recline, shift positions, and make the hours pass more comfortably. If you are travelling with an infant, book an SUV and request a child seat at checkout.
Carry water for the vehicle. Service stations on the main highways are reliable, but there are 80-to-150-kilometre stretches with nothing in between. Saudi Private Transfers drivers carry a basic supply, but having your own water, especially if you are fasting or travelling with children, is sound practice. Dates, nuts, and light snacks also make long desert legs considerably more pleasant.
Prayer times shape the rhythm of every intercity journey. The five daily prayers are observed widely, and your driver will factor prayer times into the rest-stop plan. If you have a preferred prayer time that falls at an inconvenient point in the route, discuss it at the start of the trip. Drivers know which service stations have clean, well-maintained prayer facilities and which are better avoided.
If your party includes elderly travellers or anyone with mobility needs, mention this at booking. We can arrange vehicles with easier entry height, request a specific side of the highway for a rest stop with better wheelchair access, and ensure the driver is briefed on any assistance requirements before departure.
Unlike SAPTCO buses, shared taxis, or the Haramain High-Speed Railway, a private transfer starts and ends at addresses of your choosing. There is no terminal commute, no platform sprint, and no uncertainty about onward transport once you arrive. For families with children, pilgrims carrying ihram bags, or business travellers with rolling cases, this single factor saves more time and stress than any other.
Every intercity booking is quoted at a fixed price before you confirm. Fuel price changes, traffic delays, or a longer-than-expected stop do not affect what you pay. You can share the quote with colleagues or travel companions and split it knowing the total will not shift. There are no surge multipliers, no tolls added after the fact, and no ambiguity.
The vehicle carries only your party. You can discuss business matters, play music, entertain children, sleep, or pray without adjusting to other passengers. Families can spread luggage and car seats without negotiating with strangers. For groups of three or more, this privacy — combined with the fixed price split across multiple fares — frequently makes private transfer the most economical option as well as the most comfortable.
Saudi Arabia's main intercity highways pass through vast, sparsely populated terrain. On a Riyadh-to-Jeddah run of roughly nine hours, most travellers want at least two stops — for prayer, food, and fuel. Your driver plans these in advance around service stations and rest areas, but the timing is yours to adjust. If you prefer to push through one stretch and take a longer break at a specific roadside restaurant, you simply say so.
A solo traveller flying into Riyadh and heading to Dammam for a two-day meeting has different needs from a family of six driving Makkah to Madinah with strollers and suitcases. Our fleet spans economy sedans, executive saloons, full-size SUVs, and multi-passenger vans. Booking the correct size vehicle from the outset means no compromises on luggage space or legroom over a multi-hour drive.
Intercity driving in Saudi Arabia demands specific knowledge: the safest service stations on Highway 40 between Riyadh and Dammam, the correct lane sequence for the Al Hada mountain switchbacks approaching Taif, and the prayer-time windows that affect traffic near Madinah. Our drivers are selected for highway experience, not just urban navigation. They communicate in Arabic and most speak functional English.
Long-distance travel rarely goes exactly to plan. A late departure, a vehicle issue, a family member who needs an unscheduled stop — our operations desk is staffed around the clock to re-route, reassign, or simply advise. You are never managing an intercity journey alone.
The routes below represent our most-booked city pairs. Each distance and driving time is based on real highway conditions rather than map straight-lines — expect minor variation depending on traffic near city entrances and the number of rest stops taken.
Provide your pickup address, destination address, preferred departure date and time, and the number of passengers and bags. For intercity bookings, being accurate about luggage volume matters — a family of four with full suitcases needs a different vehicle from two business travellers with carry-on bags.
Based on your passenger count and luggage load, the booking system presents suitable vehicle classes with fixed prices for your specific route. You can compare a standard sedan, a premium SUV, and a people-carrier side by side. Prices shown are final — no extras are added at checkout.
Book and pay securely online using a Saudi or international card, Apple Pay, or bank transfer for corporate accounts. You receive an instant confirmation with your booking reference, driver details, and vehicle information. For travel within 24 hours, call our operations line directly for immediate assignment.
At least two hours before your scheduled pickup, you receive a message with your driver's name, photo, phone number, and vehicle plate number. For very early-morning departures — before 06:00 — we send these details the evening before so you can rest without uncertainty.
Your driver arrives at your specified pickup address at the agreed time. They assist with loading luggage, confirm the destination, and brief you on planned rest stops. If your plans change after pickup — an extra stop, a revised drop-off point within the same city — communicate directly with the driver and our operations desk will adjust the booking record.
Your driver delivers you to the precise address you booked. If you need help with bags or have a follow-on question about the local area, your driver remains available until you are settled. After the journey, you receive a receipt and the option to rate your driver — feedback that directly informs our quality process.
All drivers operating intercity routes hold a valid Saudi Transport Authority commercial passenger licence and carry full commercial passenger liability insurance. Licence verification is repeated annually, and drivers are removed from the platform immediately if any licence irregularity is flagged.
Every vehicle is inspected before an intercity assignment: tyre pressure and condition, brake function, fluid levels, air-conditioning operation, and seatbelt integrity in all rows. Long-distance journeys make this non-negotiable. Drivers are required to report any fault before departure, and a replacement vehicle is dispatched if a problem is found at the last minute.
Your vehicle is GPS-tracked from pickup to drop-off. Our operations desk monitors active intercity journeys and can see current location, speed, and route compliance in real time. This data is also available to next-of-kin on request — a meaningful reassurance for families tracking a relative travelling alone.
Not every driver is suited to long-distance work. Our intercity driver pool is drawn exclusively from drivers with a documented history of highway travel, a clean safety record, and route familiarisation on their assigned corridors. Urban drivers who have not completed highway induction are not assigned intercity bookings.
An operations team member is available by phone and WhatsApp at all hours. If your driver develops a vehicle fault mid-journey, a replacement is dispatched from the nearest city. If weather or road closures affect the route, your driver is briefed in real time and re-routed. No intercity journey operates without live operational backup.
Intercity bookings can be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge up to 12 hours before departure. Within 12 hours, a 50 percent charge applies to cover driver positioning costs. Same-day changes to pickup time — of up to two hours in either direction — are accommodated at no extra cost where operationally possible. Full terms are shown at checkout before payment.

For standard routes like Riyadh-Dammam or Jeddah-Taif, 24 hours is usually sufficient outside of peak periods. During Hajj, Umrah seasons, and national holidays such as Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, we recommend booking three to seven days in advance. For specialist routes like Riyadh-to-AlUla, a 48-hour lead time is advisable year-round.
One-way intercity transfers are our standard product. You are not required to book a return. If you need a return journey at a later date, you can book it as a separate booking. We do not require round-trip bookings, and one-way pricing is not penalised.
Unplanned stops of a reasonable nature — prayer, food, a petrol station, a pharmacy — are accommodated by all drivers. If you anticipate needing a significant detour or an extended stop of more than 30 minutes, mention this at booking so we can build it into the estimated journey time and quote accordingly.
The Haramain Railway is faster on the rail section, but it operates between the Makkah Haramain Station and the Madinah Haramain Station — not between your hotel and your destination hotel. For pilgrims staying near the Haram in both cities, the terminal transfers by taxi or shuttle add 30 to 60 minutes at each end. A private transfer is door-to-door and remains the most convenient option for travellers with significant luggage or restricted mobility. The train is a good choice for light-luggage travellers who are happy with the terminal logistics.
A standard sedan carries up to 3 passengers with 3 medium suitcases. An executive sedan carries up to 3 passengers with slightly more boot space. A full-size SUV carries up to 4 passengers with 4 large suitcases. A minivan or people-carrier carries up to 7 passengers with corresponding luggage. If your luggage load is unusually heavy, specify this at booking and we will recommend the appropriate vehicle class.
Yes. Request a child seat or infant seat at the booking stage. We confirm availability for your specific route and vehicle. Child seats are fitted and tested before departure. There is a small additional charge for child seat provision on intercity bookings to cover cleaning and re-fitting between journeys.
