It's small, it's remote, and it sits in genuine desert terrain with none of the ride-hailing coverage you'd expect in Jeddah or Riyadh. If you haven't arranged transport in advance, you don't have a backup plan waiting at the curb.

Ride-hailing apps are effectively unavailable across AlUla's desert terrain. There's no queue of taxis outside the terminal the way there is at a major city airport. The vehicles you'll actually ride in

Because AlUla's roads run through canyon terrain and resort access gates rather than city streets, transfers here typically use premium 4x4 SUVs — GMC Yukons or Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburbans are common — with drivers experienced on those specific roads. There's genuinely more luggage and photography-equipment space in these vehicles than a standard sedan, which matters if you're carrying camera gear for Hegra or the AlUla Old Town.

Getting to Hegra and the Old Town

Hegra, AlUla's UNESCO World Heritage site, and the AlUla Old Town aren't at the airport or necessarily at your resort — they're separate stops across the wider AlUla valley. Most visitors plan airport arrival, resort check-in, and heritage-site visits as distinct legs rather than one continuous trip, so it's worth telling your driver your full itinerary rather than just the airport-to-resort leg when you book.
